Are the 1/5 HPI buggies slow compared to 1/4 scales when they race?

i have owned the 5b, 5t and FG F1, onroad cars. The hpi seemed slower than the FG cars, but i think it was that cheap engine in it stock. The 5t was better than the 5b, but not much.

My personal opinion is, the entire drive train is different, without going nuts there is tons you can do to the FG's back half of the car, .....The HPI Baja? your limited because of the way they designed the diff, totally enclosed and not much room to go up or down in gear ratios if you have the ability to make them.

As for the engines, again my opinion, I have ran 76mph at 4.3 seconds with a pretty much stock engine ( no port work ), so when you say it's because of the motor, I highly doubt that, it's much more then just an engine swap.

I wouldn't say that as a general, most of the 5th scale can't get faster then a 4.6 sec, only a handful have ever crossed the line of a 4.5, so to say they perform better then a 1/4 scale dragster would not be true.

This week Larry ran a 4.2 at 86 mph with his dragster, so I doubt any 5th scale runny him down...
We have seen Guys like Eric, Kenny, Bob, Larry and Artie all run in the 4.0's on a perfect day, this past week was just brutally hot, not good for some faster times...
